Yesterday the recording of The Battle of the Scheldt started in Lithuania. With a budget of 14 million euros, it is the largest Dutch war film in ten years. Netflix is a partner and will release the film worldwide. The initiative comes from the vfonds (the National Fund for Peace, Freedom and Veterans Care) in the context of 75 years of freedom. Vfonds is also a financial partner for a substantial contribution. A team led by producer Alain de Levita (The Storm) and director Matthijs Van Heijningen Jr. (The Thing) will work on a screenplay by Paula van der Oest. Actor Mark van Eeuwen is co-producer, together with De Levita and Van der Oest. In the Netherlands there will first be a cinema release in November 2020, provided by September Film.
