For In the Spoor of IS, the first part of which can be seen tonight on NPO 2, documentary maker Sinan Can made his toughest journey ever. In a diptych, Can tries to explain the rise and fall of the Islamic State. Last summer he traveled through Iraq and Syria together with director Jochem Pinxteren and cameraman Bruce Amende. He visited key IS locations and spoke with perpetrators and victims of the reign of terror. "I've seen completely destroyed cities and a lot of destroyed lives."
