Kamer wil noodfonds voor journalisten'
The coalition parties VVD, D66, CDA, and ChristenUnie want an emergency fund for Dutch journalists who run into problems abroad. The money should be used to train journalists and reimburse legal procedures abroad. "We are happy with this proposal and see several ways in which it can benefit journalists in need," said general secretary Thomas Bruning of the journalism trade association NVJ. The fund should contain 1 to 2 million euros, according to initiator Sjoerd Sjoerdsma of D66. It should help journalists like Rena Netjes, who was convicted in absentia in Egypt two years ago.
